Arista Transcoder

I just found this in Ubuntu Software Center and it looks pretty cool.  I used to use pspvc but it hasn’t been updated since 2007… So this looks promising.

Tor on Ubuntu Lucid Lynx

Since Lucid Lynx is still in beta, tor isn’t packaged up at torproject.org yet but there is a PPA!

https://launchpad.net/~sevenmachines/+archive/tor

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sevenmachines/tor

$ sudo apt-get update

$ sudo apt-get install tor vidalia privoxy firefox-torbutton

To start it up with a vidalia:

Applications > Internet > Vidalia

Click on settings and add privoxy to the proxy “/usr/sbin/privoxy”

Stop tor in Vidalia and make sure privoxy is down.

$ sudo /etc/init.d/privoxy stop

Add “forward-socks4a / localhost:9050 .” (without quotes) to the bottom of: /etc/privoxy/config

$ sudo /etc/init.d/privoxy start

Start tor backup either command line or through using Vidalia.
